I bought this laptop from a friend's friend the other day, got a great deal, and he told me that I'll need to have the battery replaced because it was corrupted or something. I went out and bought a new battery, used it until it emptied, but when I tried to recharge it for the first time I smelled something burning, so I unplugged it immediately. Now it won't power on at all, battery or AC. Am I FUBARed here, or is there hope? Thanks.

I think I'm going to go with FUBAR for ten thousand.
But seriously, buying used laptops turns out to be a bad idea in like four cases out of five, especially if the guy you're getting it form tells you stuff like "Oh, it works *great*, you'll just have to replace this or that." Sorry.
