| This is really embarrassing, but I'm working on my husband's computer here and need to set up the network connection on my own, so I'm asking for help here: I've been having some difficulties getting an Win XP computer onto an existing network, and certain FAQs suggested that I reconfigure or turn off (for test purposes) the default Win XP firewall. The thing is, I don't know where to find it! I've never had any networking experience in XP, so I don’t know how it handles things. Could someone clue me in, please? |

| Depending on which version of Win XP you're using, getting to the firewall controls might be either easy, or really, really easy. If you have a network connection icon in the system tray to the right 9regardless of whether it's connected or not), just right-click it and choose "change Windows firewall settings". If the icon is not there, go to Control Panel / Network Connections, and right-click the connection icon there. |
