I had a system crash one time while Outlook was downloading my new mail, and when I rebooted, everything worked fine except for Outlook. When I try running it, I get only the splash screen and then everything freezes, with sounds of HD activity coming out, but nothing happening, and then I end task it; same thing happens when I try to "repair/remove installation". What can I do to restore Outlook? I would switch to another application, but can't even export the .pst files like this and I really do need all those contacts…Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have.

Outlook is usually not worth the bother. You could check to see if your .pst files are corrupted, and if they're not, move them to another location. Another mail client should then be able to import them. To do this, type in "scanpst.exe" at the "Run" prompt, and then just browse to your .pst files (which should be somewhere in the Outlook folders).

Your .pst file may be corrupted. Microsoft provides Scanpst.exe tool to help repair problem related to outlook .pst files. This tool scans the .pst file directory structure and item headers to restore all items and folders. If scan.exe tool recovers .pst files it means it can solve your problem.
If scan.exe cannot able to solve your problems, you should try outlook pst repair software. So many outlook repair tools are available in the market. Search a best one according to your choice and solve your problems easily. |

Since your .pst file is corrupt, you are not able to even export the .pst file. A corrupt .pst file can be repaired using excellent software called Outlook Mail Recovery Software, which is a robust and a powerful Microsoft Outlook recovery tool. This tool does a much more than what a Microsoft Inbox repair tool (i.e. “Scanpst.exe”) can do. This software has the most advanced algorithms ever designed to recover data from Microsoft Outlook emails archive file (.pst).

| You can try a tool called Advanced Outlook Repair to repair your PST file. It is a powerful tool to recover messages, folders and other objects from corrupt or damaged Microsoft Outlook PST files. |
