The situation is this: I had Firefox installed, version 1.4 something, with automatic updates disabled. Now I downloaded the 1.5.0.6 version, and wanted to uninstall the old one before installing this one, just to keep everything clear. However, the uninstall window freezes dead when I try. I have to Ctrl+Alt+Del and close the control panel as well to get back to desktop. Now I'm not sure if I should install 1.5 before figuring out what's wrong with the old version re (un)installation. Did someone else have this problem, and how'd you see it through?

Personally, I enable automatic updates for the browser, it's easier that way. However, I think (but don't quote me on that) that even if you download the new version install package and update manually, the new version should recognize the old one, and just update/replace it on its own. You don't have to remove it yourself before installing. Still, if you really want to clean it all up, you could delete the folder manually and then search the registry for mozilla-related entries and delete them too…
