I've put together this low-end machine out of old parts, and I installed Win 98 on it. The problem is, whenever I start it up, I get the windows protection error, specifically the one saying "While initializing device CONFIGMG… you need to restart". If I start it up in safe mode, this doesn't happen. What's wrong with it, and how do I set it right? TIA.

You should've searched the MS database for this error. The explanation on that site states that this used to happen with some Micro Star boards, more precisely the MSI 5169. It also says you might want to try the BIOS upgrade for that puppy, and that this might solve the problem.
