I now have a dead HDD because I started the CHKDSK. In the middle of the process, the power went down, suddenly without any indication. I dont have a UPS, so the PC just went off. When it finally came back, I powered up my PC, but Windows wont boot up. I repeated the process several times, and I can see that my HDD is not recognized by BIOS. Did the CHDSK killed my HDD?

No, man, you cant blame CHDSK for your dead HDD. The electricity is the main reason. It killed you hard disk drive. CHKDSK just scans the hard disk, and it cant damage it. But the electricity is totally different thing. It must have done the major damage to your HDD if the BIOS couldnt recognize it. Try to connect your HDD to a different PC, and if still there are no results, your HDD is completely dead. You must buy a new one.
