I am using Lite-on cd drive and I have few questions. My processor is K6 AMD on 200 Mhz and I read in my manual that its good match for Lite-on. Systems requirements are win 98 with 32 MB RAM and that is enough, so the manufacturer says. MMX technology which is installed on my K6 is requiring some drivers. Their purpose is speeding up the system I suppose. I have installed that drivers but my current speed is actually lower then before. What did I do wrong?

As far as I can see your OS is doing fine. MMX supports Lite-on by default so it has it in the database. You should reinstall your drivers and check the settings. Set your upper buffer limit to 128 Kb and dont use swap. That is the main reason why is your system, I mean CD drive, so slow. I have a similar configuration with Cyrix and my cd is OK. Cyrix is even worse then AMD because it hasnt whole MMX set. Youre going to have to be very careful about copying files during a work. Like, it could get stuck or something. Speeds below 8 x should be your orientation because your requirements are not the best one. There is a reference on AMDs site so if you read it you will find reviews about MMX. Try to upgrade your RAM if you want to use 12 x speed. Cheers!
