I have this Sony combo drive and I am experiencing few problems. When I insert an empty media I got this message about my writing speed. Like it cannot burn with 32x speed while it actually can. It actually supports 52x speed on cds, so it is obviously capable of doing such a thing. Then, when I want to read a DVD, its to slow. I can literally hear this noises coming out of my drive. So, how to prevent this from happening again? Cleaning a laser lens maybe? What do you suggest?

These kind of things happen when you dont keep your medias clean. I managed to break 2 cd-r drives before I noticed its due to the dirt. Now, here is what are you going to do. Firstly, open your cdr drive carefully and plug it out. Be sure that your computer is turned off. Then gently open the door and place it somewhere. Use a vacuum cleaner to collect all the dust from its inside. Close the door and palce it where it was. Your speed problems are due to the firmware version, I would tell. So you need to find a fresh copy of firmware software and to install it. Usually, this is done on the manufacturers site. Reboot to see if there are some changes. Be sure not to put dirty cds and DVDs again. Good luck!
