I have assembled many custom build desktop PC computers. Suddenly, I got an idea to try to build a laptop. I do not know if this is possible at all and how practical it is if it is possible. Also will custom build laptop be more expensive then brand name laptop of same performance level. I would really like to hear your opinion about this.

Well, building a laptop from scratch is quite impractical job. Also, there is a good chance that such a build will be more expensive then adequate brand name laptop. But if you really want to this then you should start with barebone laptop. Companies like Asus or MSI are selling this kind of laptops. They include chassis, screen, video card etc. leaving you with the choice of processor, hard drive, amount of RAM, optical device and LAN/Wireless card.
