I have recently purchased DVD burner and with it I got some version of Ahead Nero burning software. I have written few disks already and everything is working fine. I have no problem but I am just curious what buffer underrun protection means because I see that this protection is activated every time at the beginning of disk burning.

Buffer underrun is a problem when CD/DVD burner buffer is empty before data writing is finished. In this situation burner will continue to spin disk and write nothing while it retrieves data from some source (hard drive). This will result in unusable CD media. Buffer underrun protection is a system that prevents this from happening. This protection takes note when device buffer is about to be empty and suspend data writing until buffer is full again.
