We've had a network printer break down at the home office, and I've been told to replace it. Now, I got the exact same model as the old one, but when I plug it in, nothing happens. Shouldn't it, you know, "and play" by itself?
The system is Windows XP Home. The printer is HP LaserJet 4000M. |

Network printers aren't always (or even usually) Plug & Play hardware, but you're right, Windows should acknowledge it *somehow* if you've attached the exact same model to the exact same network location.
I assume install discs came with the printer? Run them, see what they tell you. Shouldn't be too hard to follow instructions. Also, see here: http://uis.georgetown.edu/software/documentation/winxp/winxp.network.printer.html |
