I didn’t' use to have this problem before, but now I do! Whenever BT is active, everything else takes ages to start, and slows down if it's already on. The worst case scenario is Winamp already on – the sound begins to grind heavily and I can't restore the window to turn it off, so I have to reset the whole system! Like I said, BitTorrent never gave me this kind of sh*t the last time I used it, like a couple of months ago. Help please!

If it wasn't causing lag before, odds are it's not doing that now, at least not exactly. What OS are you using? If it's Windows, my money would be on your HD being heavily fragmented; that used to have similar symptoms with my machine, though with other applications. Also, since you last used BT you might have installed some programs that run in the background and drain system resources. Scan for spyware and viruses regularly.
