I have very limited experience with CPU cooling procedures, but from what I understand, the best course is usually to apply some thermal paste after cleaning it, right? If that's so, what brand of paste would you recommend? Does the recommended type vary by CPU or MoBo type, perhaps? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Last time I checked, the commonly shared opinion was Artic Silver kicks all kinds of ass. Other than that, you could also try Ceramique, or maybe Shinetsu. The differences between the types aren't really that big, overall, perhaps only a couple of degrees on average.
