I have some issues with wireless signal at my home. Linksys WRT54G router is placed in the basement and I have trouble maintaining good signal even on the first floor. I have three laptops at home and it is very important that they can have uninterrupted internet access. Is there some best antenna position for this router so I can improve its signal quality?

There is no such thing as best antenna position for any router. IT is just trial and error procedure to find best position. In your case, Linksys WRT54G have to broadcast signal through several walls an floors and I do not think that antenna position can help you here. You should buy signal booster or better antenna to fix your problems.
