My Toshiba was out of the box preinstalled with Vista. It works like a charm and I am very satisfied, but… Yesterday we got some DSL connection problem so I needed to connect via Modem – but couldn’t do it. Modem is present in the device manager, but when dialing I hear no signal – and no answer. Luckily, DSL was back on soon after, but my modem still doesn’t work.

Have you tried contacting Toshiba / visiting their website? Also try updating modem driver. It could be that the driver is buggy itself – today dial up modems are seldom used so might be that they oversaw the modem problem in first driver version. Search for other people with that laptop – have they had any problems with the modem?
