I received my Ati Radeon video card from an ebay seller yesterday. I dont know if it was a scam, but it is actually broken. What I want to is how to recover it. Here is the actual problem. When I launch a Half life 2 or Halo, I see 4 red lines on my game screen. They dont move at all although playing is not affected. They are placed horizontally with my game menu. The resolution is 1024x768 with 75 hz so is there a connection here? My video card supports even larger resolutions, like 2048*1280. Is this a software issue maybe?

It could be the software issue although it doesnt have to be. I suppose you downloaded it? Did you use a suppliers site or peer-to-peer? There is way to get your money back from your scammer, you only need to contact ebays costumers support. Large screen resolutions have a tendency to cause all kinds of screen effects like yours. Have you tried to use 800x600 screen resolution, it is much better for ATIs memory? Red lines on the other hand could mean that your monitor is broken, not a video card. Are you using CRT or TFT monitor? Once I saw this kind of problem on CRT and we managed to repair it using new resistor. So, basically it is not a big problem. All you need to do is consulting your hardware service and they will check it for you. Take care and watch for those ebay scammers.
