Hello,
Could someone please tell me what's the deal with Ubuntu and Ati hardware? I had no end of troubles installing the drivers for my Ati card when I first tried the distro, but only later I found that I wasn’t the only one, far from it. In fact, judging from googled pages, it looks like it's effectively impossible to get Ati drivers to work on Ubuntu. But it can't be quite that bad, can it?

Well, which card model do you have? ATi support has improved significantly since, I think, Radeon 9500 – earlier versions you just simply couldn't get to work, while newer ones are pieceacake. Try hitting the ATi wiki over at ubuntuguide.org (do a local search), you should be able to learn something useful there.
