I had this problem with Firefox, and now it's starting to affect Thunderbird as well! After I close the program, and go on to do other stuff, I can't seem to get it working again. I click on the icon, and all I get is a message window saying something along the lines of "Firefox is still working, you need to close it first". WTF? It's not working, or at least I can't see it anywhere! But still, I have to restart the computer to get everything back to normal. What's the deal with this? Is it a Mozilla-only issue?

Sounds like the programs get stuck in memory as you close them. When the problem occurs next, try pressing Ctrl Alt Del to get to the task manager, and see if there's a entry called firefox.exe (or thunderbird.exe). If yes, than that's it. You'll be able to end-task them here, and then start them normally. To remedy the problem more permanently, you should probably run anti-spyware scans to get rid of resource clutter.
