I'm having difficulty running any of the games I have installed at the moment. The gameplay cuts out every other second, and sometimes even crashes. This happens in any game I try, PES 6, CS: S, whatever. I never had this problem before with any of them, so it's not hardware incompatibility… I did a disk defrag, but that didn't help.

Anyone have any suggestions? TIA

Well, are you sure all your hardware is still completely functional? A number of things could've happened without you knowing it, a RAM stick dying, video card clogging and overheating, etc. Run some diagnostics to make sure.
But if we're talking software solution, my money would be on malware hogging all your system resources. Get some cleanup and protection utilities, like Spybot or something.
