I read you question and I noticed that you didnt tell us 2 important things. How big was the file you were trying to view and how fast is your connection? I know that these days most of folks have high speed internet but Im just checking all possibilities. For example if you have dial up and you are trying to download a file that is about 10mb, on a dial up connection this can last more than 30 minutes. So white screen is a normal in this case, and if you want to see a document it needs to be downloaded fully. You should check progress bar inside of you browser and see if is progressing slowly, or if is stopped. If its stopped then you have a problem with program. Stopping and not loading pdf when online is a common problem with older versions of Adobe Acrobat. In this case update your Adobe Reader or download latest version from the Internet.
But if its moving slowly than either file is too big or your connection is too slow. Changing the connection type you use and moving to ADSL,Cable or wireless could solve your problem.
