I have heard that ActiveX controls on web sites can cause many security problems. I am running Macintosh with OS X 10.4 and using Internet Explorer to surf. Am I in danger from malicious use of ActiveX content? Please, explain this to me, because I am really worried. I am afraid of internet surfing.
ActiveX controls are native to Windows Operative system so they can not be used to harm your system. However there is NPAPI which is used the same way as ActiveX. To run dynamical content on web site and can execute native commands. That said with NPAPI (as a replacement for ActiveX) on your computer can be installed different things instead of, lets say, missing plug-in.
