Acer Laptop BIOS password

I bought acer travelmate from a friend thatâ€™s moving abroad a few days ago. It didnâ€™t have a hard drive but my friend was convincing me it works fine. When I connected it to my HD and tried to setup the BIOS, it turned out that I need a password. And now Iâ€™m unable to contact my friend. How can I get past this password?

Anyway, if you donâ€™t know how else you can do this, you can always reset BIOS by removing the battery. Anyway, Iâ€™m not sure that this is as easy with laptops as it is with desktop computers.
