I bought acer travelmate from a friend that’s moving abroad a few days ago. It didn’t have a hard drive but my friend was convincing me it works fine. When I connected it to my HD and tried to setup the BIOS, it turned out that I need a password. And now I’m unable to contact my friend. How can I get past this password?

I think that this page may be of help to you: http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/reference/biosp.htm . Anyway, if you don’t know how else you can do this, you can always reset BIOS by removing the battery. Anyway, I’m not sure that this is as easy with laptops as it is with desktop computers. I hope this helps you.
