We're using Access 97, and have sort of a situation with record locks. What happens is this: One user opens a record and starts editing it (which locks it, as it should be). A second user tries to edit the same record, and can do this (no warning at all!), except when he is finished he can't save his changes – now he gets the "can't save, record has changed" message. This calls for some ninja-style techniques in coordinating work. Isn't there an easier way to handle this, either allowing the second user to save, or not granting him access to the record in the first place? We can't find this option anywhere. Thanks in advance for your help.

No luck, I'm afraid. You can set up what you want, but only on page level – and I don’t think that's what you're looking for exactly. To do this, go to Tools / Options / Advanced, and change the record lock there. However, in Access 97 I don’t think there's a way to set up record level locks at all. I know Access 2000 supports this, so think about updating.
