AIM constantly disconnects on my laptop

I have a problem with AIM – it just keeps on disconnecting even though all other internet related applications are working properly. My laptop is connected to the internet via dsl shared through a linksys BEFW11S4 V4 router. Does anyone know what could be the problem?

It is a common problem and I think it’s been more than 5 times I’ve seen a similar question here. And nobody seems to know the answer. The usual reply was that you just shouldn’t use AIM. I’ve even seen a comment that AIM is like a virus and you should get rid of it. I kind of agree with that. Still using linksys might also cause problems. Maybe you could get a switch and have a linux box as your firewall/router.
