After a severe system failure I decided to reformat my hdd. Of course I’ve backed up all the necessary data. However it won’t boot to system I’ve installed on the newly formatted HDD. I saw that this can be a consequence of 0 active partition set, but still not sure how to fix this problem.

This is easily solved with the same software you’ve partitioned your hdd, whether it’s acronis, or partition magic, or even the text-only fdisk software. Just find an option saying ‘set active partition’, or select a partition and choose ‘set this partition active’. You might wanna do this booting from a start-up diskette.
